LINES OF RESEARCH

Main area of focus

Multi and interdisciplinarity in tissue injuries

Tissue injuries, with their big diversity of etiopathogenesis, have place in all levels of health care assistance. Therefore, are a matter of public health and require engagement and attention from public health policies. Their management involve professionals from many specialties, besides private and public health managers, manufacturers and sellers of products focused on prevention, healing and tissue regeneration. This main area has as a goal the scientific and technological development in tissue injuries.

Technological and Scientific lines of practice:

Management and quality in tissue injuries

Traditional measures of morbidity and mortality are considered insufficient to measure the benefits of healthcare interventions. It is important for the healthcare professional to be able to measure the perception of the patient´s health to evaluate the benefit of his interventions and transform it in objectify services. Society demands more and more the quality of the services offered. This demand is fundamental in health system management and theme of government programs, inducing the creation and improvement of evaluation mechanisms and healthcare quality control.

The evaluation of health-related quality of life is recognized as an important measure of outcomes, being used as an effectiveness index in cost-effectiveness studies. The measurement of quality is not just a technical matter, rather it has implications in resources allocation, services organization and professional guidance. Therefore, the improvement of healthcare quality turned to be the focus not only of the healthcare professionals, the administrative boards, hospital managers and finance directors but also of the health insurance plans, employers and patients.

The goals of this line of research are to evaluate outcomes of prophylactic and therapeutic procedures in tissue injuries, using validated tools to evaluate patients and caregivers quality of life, aiming the quality of the services offered. Also evaluate through specific tools, the quality of the services offered to patients with tissue injuries in all levels of health care assistance, aiming the development of policies that allow incorporation of quality in products and services related to tissue injuries.

Standardization of procedures and innovation in tissue injuries

Tissue injuries are characterized by loss of tissue continuity, with big diversity of etiopathogenesis, which include surgical procedures, trauma, burnings, pressure, arterial and venous vascular insufficiency, and diabetes mellitus, among others. Thus, the theme “tissues injuries” has a big social impact, once it is of many people interest, being a challenge to healthcare professional. Evidence of the effectiveness of current practices in healthcare are progressively required, raising the demand for studies capable of providing reliable scientific evidence to answer clinical questions of interest. In parallel, the technological development enables advances in tissue injuries prevention and innovation in tissues regeneration and healing therapy bringing new possibilities to injuries resolution. This line of research aims to emphasize the importance of multidisciplinary work in the process of tissue repairment and injuries healing, through the standardization and evaluation of the effectiveness of new procedures and products on injuries prevention and treatment.

Phytotherapy in tissue injuries

The development of phytoterapic drugs allows the use of the Brazilian biodiversity in a sustained and economically beneficial way. In Minas Gerais, mainly in the less developed regions, there is a tradition in using medicinal plants in the treatment of tissue injuries. The consume of drugs made from plants has been progressively growing, leading the pharmaceutical industry to search for natural compounds and the scientific validation of many plants of popular use. This line of reserach aims to develop phytotherapic products to tissue injuries treatment, covering the development of high quality phytotherapic raw material, development and manufacturing of phytotherapic drugs, pre-clinical and clinical trials of these products and evaluation of their cost-effectiveness.
